Z/OS Installation

Learn how to plan for and install a z/OS system. Learn about the initial installation using ServerPac options and dialogs, focusing on z/OS using Job Entry System 2 (JES2). Gain experience in basic system tailoring in labs and exercises. Hands-on lab projects may be done in teams depending on the number of attendees and the location.

Who Should Take This Course:

Individuals who install and customize their first OS/390 system are eligible. System programmers who have some experience in or knowledge of the MVS environment but are new to OS/390 installation and customization tasks.

What You Are Taught

  • Determine the Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD) requirements to install a test system from tapes ordered via the ServerPac option
  • Build an OS/390 system using ServerPac dialogs
  • Define the I/O configuration using I/O Control Program (IOCP) and the Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD)
  • Customize selected members of SYS1.PARMLIB and JES2 initialization parameters to meet specific installation requirements
  • Define the Time Sharing Option (TSO) environment to MVS and Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM)
  • Outline the steps required to create a production system and to establish a maintenance environment
